How HeyHashi was Born

HeyHashi, formerly Hashimoto’s Awareness, was founded by two women and patient activists who know firsthand what it’s like to struggle with autoimmune disease and what a huge difference support, education, and community make. Prior to founding the organization in 2013, Pearl Thomas and Fabienne Heymans were both in remission after reading and following the protocols in Dr. Datis Kharrazian‘s books and hosting their own online and in person Hashimoto’s support groups.

Upon meeting they immediately saw the possibility of creating something bigger together, quickly filing for 501(c)3 status for HeyHashi, formerly Hashimoto’s Awareness, and raising funds while building a board of expert advisors, including Dr. Kharrazian who was an instrumental part of the organization’s early days.

Thomas and Heymans then courted sponsors and grants to fund the development of what would become the first Healing Hashimoto’s Summit while continuing to raise funds for the day-to-day operations of the organization. Hashimoto’s Awareness has been a part of the incredible Thyroid Mastermind event (via an invitation from Dr. Izabella Wentz) and helped introduce thousands of Hashimoto’s sufferers to resources like the Thyroid Connection Summit, the groundbreaking documentary series The Thyroid Secret, and the Betrayal docu-series.

Today, Thomas and Heymans are making a difference worldwide by connecting people with the resources they need to overcome this serious and under-diagnosed disease.
